'Stangs dominate stats, but fall to Lions

Posted 9/07/16 (Wed)

inton/Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock held off an exciting second-half rally by South Border on Friday for a 14-12 victory in Region 3 nine-man football.

The previously-unbeaten Mustangs put together an impressive 70-yard march deep into Lion territory on their first possession of the game, only to be turned away short of the endzone, with big losses on back-to-back plays.

In the second quarter, the Lions (2-1 overall, 2-0 in Region 3) scored on a two-yard burst by junior running back Landon Twardoski. Chase Schiele ran for the conversion, and a 14-0 cushion.

South Border bounced back from there to completely dominate the rest of the game. The defense limited Linton/HMB to just 11 plays from scrimmage after halftime.
