The Wishek Community Foundation is hoping to scare up funds for the Park Board's proposed swimming pool renovation and other local projects with some pre-Halloween fun.

Foundation board members are hosting a Haunted Warehouse at 208 2nd St. South. The site, owned by Danzig Honey Co., is located just across the street from Wald Fencing.

Full performances are slated from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, and from 7 p.m. to midnight on both Friday, Oct. 27, and Saturday, Oct. 28. Admission is $12 per person.

A family matinee is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 28, with a reduced admission of $4 per person.

"It will be scary," says co-director Tammy Rohweder.

"We have lots of surprises in store for anyone who dares to enter the warehouse."

Rohweder says the production will feature about 25 live Halloween monsters and other creepy creatures.

"I have heard some people think that this is aimed at little kids, but that's not the case. Our primary target audience is adults, college students and older high school students."

"I have heard some people think that this is aimed at little kids, but that's not the case. Our primary target audience is adults, college students and older high school students."

Rohweder says the family matinee is suitable for children. It will not include any of the live performers. Kids under 13 also are welcome at the full performances, but they should be accompanied by an adult.

Rohweder, co-director Cathy Kowalski, and a few cast members have previous experience at other haunted houses, including a long-running annual event in Mobridge, South Dakota.

"We have acquired ideas from other places and we have added several of our own," Rohweder says.

The Haunted Warehouse will include a series of spooky scenarios, including a corn maze.

"We don't want to give too much away," Rohweder says. "But we can promise an exciting assortment of frights and thrills."

"It will take about 20 minutes to progress through the warehouse. There are panic exits at certain spots, in case anyone wants to get out early."

This is the first 'haunted' event being held in Wishek during the last several years.

"We know people have been traveling to the bigger cities for things like this," Rohweder says.

"It's an opportunity for people to enjoy some good, scary fun a little closer to home.

"At the same time, we're also raising money for the Community Foundation and to help finance the renovation being planned at the Wishek Swimming Pool. It's a great cause."

The Wishek Community Foundation was established last year. Advisory Board members are Debra Dohn, Brenda Dohn, Brooke Kosiak, Katie Pinke and Perry Turner.

Subcommittee members who have been preparing scenario rooms and building props for the Haunted Warehouse include Rohweder, Kowalski, Brenda and Erik Dohn, Brooke and John Kosiak, Sonia and David Salwei, Sheldon Wanner, Rocky Brown and James Fandrich.

"We also have been putting together a team of additional volunteers to run concessions, sell tickets, be room guides, play characters, and serve as security guards," says Brenda Dohn.

"We really appreciate everyone who is coming forward to lend a hand and make this fundraiser a success."
