Deile dies at 80

Stan Deile, a Wishek businessman for more than 50 years, died Jan. 10 at a Fargo hospital. He was 80.

 

Funeral services were held Saturday at St. Luke Lutheran Church. Burial was in St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery.

 

In 1962, Stan and and his wife, Blanche, purchased the Red Owl grocery store, in partnership with Jim and Arlene Klundt. The business was known as Stan and Jim’s Red Owl. In 1968, they purchased the Gamble's variety store in partnership and, in 1972, Stan became sole owner of Stan’s Red Owl. In 1979, Stan built a new store along Highway 13 East and, in 1989, it became known as Stan’s SuperValu.

 

In 2004, Stan and Blanche sold the business to their son, Darren. Stan continued to work in the store until his retirement in 2016.

 

Stan was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek Lions Club and Wishek Antique Car Club. He served on the St. Luke Church Council for four years. Stan also served on the Wishek City Council, Wishek Association of Commerce, Wishek Fire Department and Wishek Economic Development Corp. He was a past member of the Eagles Club, Golf Club, Saddle Club, and Snowmobile Club.

 

During his service with the Association of Commerce, Stan was a Sauerkraut Day committee member, including several years as chairman or co-chairman.
