Fundraiser aids adoption plans

Renee and Josh Fornelli, who teach in Wishek and Napoleon, respectively, have decided to adopt a child.

Student Council members at both schools are hosting a spaghetti feed fundraiser to help the couple offset travel costs and other expenses associated with the adoption. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 12, at the WHS gym. Freewill donations will be accepted.

"Though my husband and I are both teachers, it took us a few years to decide it was the right time to have children of our own," says Renee Fornelli.

"We knew we wanted to have secure jobs, own a home and feel settled in a community we loved before we could begin thinking of adding to our family.

"I was hired in Wishek the same month we finalized purchasing a house in Napoleon, a town we had come to think of as home. We thought, foolishly, that having a baby would soon follow.

"After a year of being unable to conceive, we decided to see a doctor. She referred us to a Women’s Clinic, where they specialize in helping couples who struggle with fertility issues. After several tests, it was determined both Josh and I have health conditions that make getting pregnant difficult.

"On the drive home from the doctor’s office, we decided to move straight to adopting, though, we weren’t sure how it worked, or where to start."
