While shipping containers have been plunked down around Ashley, only one person has sought the necessary building permit from the Ashley City Council.
 
Erich Schock's request was denied during the council's regular monthly meeting on Aug. 8.
 
The city requires an application for a building permit be filed and approved by the council before buildings may be moved into city limits.
 
While the shipping containers may offer inexpensive and secure storage, the council has several concerns. Among them:
 
* Some shipping containers may be coated with lead paint.
 
* Unknown dangerous chemicals may have seeped into shipping containers with wooden floors.
 
* Children may unwittingly become locked inside.
